Celeste Rode - Winter Mosquitos?

While walking along the bank of the Columbia River in the dead of winter with my husband, we came upon a creek. Flying on top of the thick crust of snow were mosquitoes. We were very surprised by this find as we come from a place where winter means no bugs at all ( northern Canada) but since moving to the West Kootenay in B.C (southern) Canada, we are constantly surprised by what can survive and come to life in the sunshine of a winter day!
